Dear Samantha,

Thank you so much for making our day ‘oh so perfect.’ The marquee looked amazing and we have had so many comments about how wonderful everything looked!

You were so helpful on the day, being there to calm me down and spray my feet in the warm weather – you really do have a treasure chest of goodies!

Thank you so much for making our day so special!

DIY Delicious Home-made Chocolate Cocktails

We’ve been cooking up a liquor-fuelled storm in the Oh So Perfect kitchen this week (all in the name of research!) creating these devilishly delicious alcoholic chocolate cocktails… it’s a wonder we’re still standing!

A cheeky treat for a fabulous home-made hen party, or bottled up and presented to your guests as luxurious DIY wedding favours, these two super-simple but seriously tasty cocktail recipes are the perfect chocolate accompaniment to any sweet-toothed couple’s wedding day.

Here we’re showing you how to make both a dark chocolate and vodka cocktail, and a white chocolate and peach schnapps cocktail, but these recipes are extra-fab as you can mix and match your favourite alcohol/chocolate combinations to really create your perfect dessert drinks – have fun!

You will need…

Don’t worry about the quantities, the more you have the merrier, as it’ll all get used in the end, right?! For these recipes, it’s all about finding the mixture and strength you prefer, so play about adding the alcohol and cream as you desire to find the taste that’s right for you.

  • Your desired choice of alcohol. We used vodka and peach schnapps, but you can use whatever you like! Don’t worry about using cheap spirits either, as the taste of the chocolate will mask the quality of the alcohol, whichever you choose to use.
  • Your desired choice of chocolate. We’ve used a mixture of milk and plain to go with the vodka, and white chocolate for the peach schnapps. You can use anything you like, or even go wild and use some chocolate caramel bars for extra naughtiness!
  • Single cream
  • A shallow pan filled with water
  • A glass bowl
  • A container or bowl for breaking up the chocolate (or just use the glass bowl!)
  • A mixing spoon or spatula
  • You may require a jug or funnel to help you pour the finished drink into the desired glass or bottle.

Step 1 – Let’s start with the vodka…

Break up your chocolate into a container or bowl.

Step 2

Heat up the shallow pan of water on the hob, so the water is boiling. Pop your glass bowl in the middle of the pan to create a bain-marie.

Step 3

Add your broken chocolate to the glass bowl. As the chocolate begins to melt, stir it with the spoon or spatula.

Step 4

Begin adding your chosen spirit little by little, to build up your required strength. Careful not to let the mixture boil though or you will evaporate the alcohol (disaster!)

Step 5

Pour some cream into the mixture, then keep on stirring until the chocolate is fully melted and the contents perfectly mixed to the desired texture. Remember, you can always add some more more alcohol/cream as you go, depending on the strength and flavour you are after.

Don’t panic if the mixture starts to look lumpy, just keep heating and stirring and it will get there in the end!

Step 6

Once the liquid is at the correct strength and consistency you can either pour it into a jug to cool down ready for your cocktails, or use a funnel to fill bottles to use as wedding favours. The alcohol content means that the chocolate will not solidify, so you can even bottle it and store it in the freezer for a cold after-dinner drink whenever you fancy it!

And as for the white chocolate and peach schnapps? Just rinse out the glass bowl and follow the steps all over again!

Enjoy!

We were so pleased this morning to receive this wonderful, handwritten letter of thanks from the parents of our Laugharne bride, Emma, through our letter box…

Dear Samantha

Thank you so much for making our daughter’s wedding day so perfect. You really made a difference and we were absolutely delighted with everything – from start to finish!
Emma and Andy had a wonderful day. They were thrilled with the vintage styling of the marquee. It was everything they had hoped for – thanks to you. Above all, we all had peace of mind on the day that everything was under control – in your very capable hands.

We look forward to meeting you again soon, for Emma’s twin sister’s wedding planning!

Best wishes, Marilyn and Craig x

And we can’t wait to see them again soon either, when we’ll be helping with Emma’s sister’s wedding next year!

It’s All In The Design

One of the most exciting things on your wedding day is seeing all those grand plans, little touches and finer details come together exactly how you hoped they would, bringing your perfect day to life.

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?

It’s a dream come true for any happy couple on their big day to see the wedding they’ve worked so hard on creating come to life, and even more so for us here at Oh So Perfect, as we get to transform the designs we’ve worked so hard on with our couples into a reality. If there’s ever a reward for doing your job, it’s seeing the smile on a bride’s face as she enters the room and sees the designs we worked so hard on paper and portfolio in all their finished glory for the first time!

With that in mind, we thought we’d share our original designs, the venue ‘before shots,’ and the final photos from Emma and Andy’s ‘Better Together’ wedding with you to show you an example of the Oh So Fabulous – Wedding Design process from Oh So Perfect.

It’s The Secrets You Discover…

Diary of a Wedding Planner

One of the exciting things about my job as a wedding planner is having the opportunity to head out on the road visiting lots of fabulous venues on behalf of my couples. I love a bit of history, and I certainly get my fair fix of it visiting manor houses owned by old wealthy families, castles steeped in centuries of legend, and historic venues with views across miles of Welsh farmland. I also love finding little hidden gems and contemporary hide-outs, and quite often find myself taking a couple of side notes on my visits for places to stay with friends, or hotels with rather inviting spas for if I should find myself with a rare day off…!

Since Saturday morning, I have found myself out on the road visiting several venues from West Wales, to Powys, to The Vale of Glamorgan, to Bridgend, and I sure have seen a whole range of different shapes, styles, exteriors, interiors, atmospheres and offers from a host of buildings able to make your big day special in their own unique way.

But it is the secrets you discover whilst out on the road that make venue searching all the more fun, and often when planning a day out of the office I’ll try to fit in a little bit of time to make the most of an opportunity to see something extra on my trip, a little bit of indulgence for my own enjoyment, if you will!

Whilst visiting the Powys area on Sunday afternoon, I found myself only 20 minutes from one of my favourite Welsh towns, Hay On Wye. Mr Perfect and I  fell in love Hay On Wye a few years ago whilst attending an experimental poetry jamboree held in the town along the same weekend as the legendary Hay Festival (Mr P being a self-confessed poetry nerd) and have visited every summer since. It was during one of these festivals that I discovered what is now my favourite vintage and antique shop in the world, ‘The Olde Curiosity Shoppe.’ I had escaped the jamboree for 10 minutes (being a self-confessed poetry novice) and discovered this little beauty of a vintage wonderland tucked away in a secret corner behind the castle – an hour and a half later I was still hiding in amongst the attic beams, thoroughly enjoying myself surrounded by mountains of clothes, hats, gloves, handbags, pill boxes, oxo tins, magazines, milk jugs, glasswares, suitcases, sunglasses et al. It’s a wonder Mr Perfect hadn’t sent in a search party by this point! So, since I was only a few miles away from the shop I love so much, it would have been rude not to pop in after my final venue visit, wouldn’t it? I am now the proud owner of a very fabulous 1940 Harrods handbag, and a 1920s Chinese, hand-painted sugar bowl.

Whilst zipping around the Vale of Glamorgan visiting more venues yesterday afternoon, and with my assistant for the day, Margaret, in tow we made a little stop by Ogmore Castle on the way home, as Mags had mentioned some tipis she’d spotted in a nearby field there once before. We found the castle, we also found the tipis, and a whole host of horses grazing and cooling down by the river – what a perfect end to an afternoon wedding-site-shopping! We stopped by the castle for a quick cup of tea before heading home and were lucky enough to meet the owner of the tipi company enjoying an afternoon in the sunshine there too.

Sometimes it pays to take a little time out to stop and see the things you love. Now I have a handy contact for wedding tipis and yurts on my books, and a glamorous new handbag to swing about my arm on my next road trip!

With love,
Samantha x

Sarah and Rob ~ Testimonial

Oh So Honest – Client Testimonial

We’d like to say a big thank you to our lovely couple, Sarah and Rob, for writing such a kind testimonial of Oh So Perfect‘s work at their recent ‘Gower Romance’ wedding. It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of their special day, and one we won’t forget!

Rob and I were lucky enough to have won Oh so Perfect’s ‘On the day wedding coordination’ package after entering a competition at a vintage wedding fayre a few months before our big day. I can honestly say that this was possibly the best thing that could have happened to our wedding and if I had only known what I know now, I would have booked Samantha immediately after first meeting her at that wedding fayre!

We met Samantha for our first consultation a few weeks before the wedding and right from that initial meeting we were immediately impressed. Samantha was so thorough with her questions and details and was extremely attentive, making us feel like she wanted to get to know us as a couple, as well as getting to know our wedding. As any bride and groom will tell you, the final few weeks before your wedding are ridiculously busy and stressful (no matter how hard you try for them not to be!) so we were so happy to walk away from that meeting relaxed and confident that our wedding was in good hands. No stone was left unturned and going through all the final details made us even more excited for the day to arrive!

As for the wedding day, I cannot sing Samantha’s praises enough and will forever be grateful for everything she did for us! Samantha managed every aspect of the day from start to finish calmly and confidently. It was only after the wedding that I found out some of the ‘hiccups’ that took place on the wedding morning from family members – but on that morning, I was completely oblivious to it all! Samantha dealt with everything in her stride, without me even realising there was a problem – something I know both my mum and mum-in-law were very grateful of!!

One thing I am especially grateful for is that Rob and I were able to enjoy EVERY minute of the day without having to deal with all the little stresses that inevitably occur; no matter how meticulously you have planned it. Samantha took all the pressure from us and throughout the entire process, nothing was too much trouble. Not only is Samantha one of the most creative and professional people you will meet, but she is also an amazingly lovely lady!

We were lucky enough to win Oh So Perfect’s services, but both my hubby and I have said if we were to plan it all again, hiring Samantha would definitely be one of the first things we would do and we would recommend her to anybody planning their own wedding!

Emma and Andrew ~ Better Together

Oh So Perfect – Wedding and Event Portfolio

On Saturday 4th August 2012 Emma Borland married Andrew Morris in a bunting-filled wedding held at Broadway Country House in Laugharne, South Wales.Oh So Perfect were delighted to be involved in the overall design, set up and on the day coordination of Emma and Andy’s big day…

Oh So Perfect’s wedding coordinator Samantha and her assistant Christina set up the bunting which had been specially designed and created by Emma Bunting for this wedding, based on our wedding styling designs. Here we are setting up the bunting, pompoms and all the little pieces that went together to compliment the wedding theme…

We love being able to show our couples around the marquee before the guests enter for the wedding breakfast. Emma and Andy were over the moon with the overall look they had dreamed of – there were audible gasps of ‘wow’ as they entered for the big reveal!

And the finishing touches…

We used the name of Emma and Andrew’s first dance for the bunting on the top table…

The favours table consisted of jars of jams and chutneys for guests to take home, which had been made by the mother of the groom.

Oh So Perfect and Samantha would like to extend a huge thank you to our set up  assistants Christina and Mark, who did a fantastic job helping make Emma and Andrew’s dream wedding come to life. Also, thank you to Mark for taking such wonderful photos for our blog and portfolio. All photos credited to Mark Hawkins Photography.
