Swansea’s Women in Business Awards 2012

Diary of a Wedding Planner

Regular followers of the blog may remember that last week we celebrated all things ‘girl power’ in preparation of the 2012 Swansea Women in Business Awards by giving a huge shout out to two fabulous business women, and very good friends –¬†Stacey Adamiec of Revue Studios, and Ronnie Kerswell O’Hara of Bluestocking Lounge¬†– both of whom had been nominated in categories at the awards.

Well, I’m sad to say that neither girlie won first prize (booo!) but what an achievement all the same as both of these incredible ladies were highly commended in their categories, and have been recognised as inspirational women and excellent¬†entrepreneurs in Wales – well done you two!!

But even though we weren’t celebrating wins, we still had a rather fun afternoon. After a spot of networking, photographing and general schmoozing we were wined and dined with a 3 course meal which included a rather delicious hazelnut cr√®me¬†brulee dessert and complimentary cup cake from local celebration cake¬†baker Meinir Morgan (she makes fab wedding cakes too!), and treated to an inspiring talk from the owner of, Debra Williams, a local lady from the same streets as Mr Perfect of all places! Plus we took away some amazing goodie bags packed full of facemasks, lingerie vouchers, jelly beans and of course, what every business woman needs, a pocket tax book…

And there was even time afterwards for a sneaky cocktail with all the other winners and nominees… although of course I was far more engrossed in the Swansea Business Life magazine to join in… well at least for a little while anyway!

Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, highly commended, and of course to all the winners! Here’s to next year!

With love,
Samantha x

Oh So Honest ‚Äď Client Testimonial

We’re delighted to have received this lovely testimonial from the Mother of the Bride from our West Wales marquee wedding:

I cannot recommend Samantha highly enough following my daughter and son in law‚Äôs wedding on 15th September. She is calm, professional, supportive and prepared for all eventualities. She has a lovely manner and gave us all a huge degree of confidence and comfort that everything would be wonderful ‚Äď it was! Thank you so much Samantha.

A Perfect Anniversary

Diary of a Wedding Planner

The day you walk down the aisle, look your partner in the eye, and say those magic words “I do” is a day you’ll never forget, and one you will look back on for years to come, as every year, on that day, you celebrate your anniversary.¬†But what other anniversaries do we celebrate in love? And when is it appropriate to celebrate your love¬†before you get married?

Once a couple is married, that date becomes the ‘anniversary date.’ It’s the day that you openly celebrate your love with friends and family, or together on your own. It is the day you count as ‘Day 1’ – the day your lives came together in love and unity, and the marker from which you refer to when considering how long you have been together as couple.

But what about before you became Mr & Mrs, which day did you celebrate your anniversary on then? And do you still¬†celebrate¬†that day even¬†after¬†you’ve tied the knot?

Today, for me, is a special day: 6 years ago yesterday, I moved to Wales. 6 years ago today, I met a boy with a black eye. 6 years ago tomorrow, my jigsaw puzzle was complete.

I’d found the missing piece: I’d met my Mr. Perfect, and today is the day we celebrate the most, as it was the day our story started. Not only that, but trying to pin down an actual ‘anniversary date’ was quite a task for us, and so generally speaking the next fortnight or so is full of memorable dates we celebrate together, day by day.

2nd October… the first kiss…¬†1st October… the first¬†almost kiss!

8th October… the date we pretty much called ourselves a couple… 17th October… the date everyone else called us a couple!

14th October… the date I giggled like a school girl, twiddled my hair and said ‘Will you be my boyfriend?… or is that the 15th October…? It was 4am¬†after all! (Incidentally the ‘giggling like a school girl’ bit was quite apt. It was ‘Back To School’ night and we were both dressed as school girls… was it the blond wig that finally sealed the deal perhaps?!)

5th December… our first date (work that one out!)

But whichever date we finally called ‘ours’ we knew one thing for sure; when we met on 23rd September 2006 something started that would last forever. I knew I had to be near this boy, and he knew he needed me near him too. So, happy anniversary to my very own Mr. Perfect. The black eye faded, but the love never will… xx

When do you celebrate your anniversary? Do you mark all those little dates that tell your story, or stick to the one day you define as yours? Will you change your anniversary date once you’re married, or celebrate both?¬†

With love,
Samantha x

Thanks a Bunch!

Just as we were heading out of the door Friday morning… look what arrived! A lovely bunch of flowers from the mother of last weekend’s bride and a special little note inside…

“Dear Samantha, thank you so much for everything you did to make Kate and Rich’s day so special on Saturday. You were the most fabulous support and such a calm presence. With love Ann x”

Kate and Richard ~ Dinner Party in the Forest

Oh So Perfect – Wedding and Event Portfolio

On Saturday 15th September 2012 Kate Lamont married Richard Turney in an exqusite Edwardian-inspired ‘dinner party in the forest’ themed wedding held in a marquee in a field near Aberporth, West Wales, overlooking the glorious Cardigan Bay.Oh So Perfect¬†were delighted to be involved in the overall¬†set up and¬†on the day coordination¬†of Kate and Richard’s special day‚Ķ

The bride and her father travelled to the church in Kate’s uncle’s Rolls Royce. After the ceremony, Kate and Richard headed back to the venue in her step-father’s very own vintage Jaguar E-type.

A little spot of rain in the afternoon did nothing to dampen the happy couple’s spirits – it meant the guests could use their personalised wedding umbrellas!

Inside the marquee our couple’s vision of indoors meets outdoors came to life spectacularly! We brought in real trees, oil paintings, cut glass and vintage wine decanters galore to create a feeling of an Edwardian dinner party in the forest…

The favours¬†were¬†little bottles of olive oils produced from the mother of the bride’s home in Italy. The menu consisted entirely of locally sourced Welsh produce, all of which was mapped out inside the menu cards for guests to see.

The tables were named after some of Kate and Richard’s favourite pubs across the UK, all of which held treasured memories for them.¬†

The cake was decorated with royal icing and hand-made sugarcraft hydrangeas – they look so real!

As day turned to night, the marquee lit up spectacularly, adding more magic to this forest fantasy…

Then, as night fell, guests could indulge in the candle-lit whisky tipi which was stocked full of Penderyn whisky and a warm Welsh welcome… the guests partied ’til dawn!

Even the bride’s favourite teddy bear stayed up all night!

Who Rule The World – Girls!

Diary of a Wedding Planner

I’m so delighted to announce that this Friday I will be joining some of South Wales’ finest ladies for lunch in the Dragon Hotel by attending the Swansea Business Women’s Awards. Not only am I thrilled to be attending this very special event, but I’m actually a little bit over-excited really as I am honoured to be seated at what I’m sure is set to be the most fabulous table in the room, consisting of not just one but TWO nominees – and two very good friends as well!

I’m so pleased to announce that two very fabulous women in particular are up for nominations this year – not only are these two ladies incredible, dynamic business women, but I am honoured to call them both my friends as well.

So a huge congratulations to Stacey Adamiec of Revue Dance Studios and Ronnie Kerswell O’Hara of Bluestocking Lounge for being recognised and nominated in their own categories – well done girlies! This pair could not be more deserving of their nominations, and it’s all fingers and toes crossed that perhaps this Friday lunch time I’ll be dining with two winners…¬†Time to dust off a fancy frock then!

I can’t wait to bring you the photos and gossip later next week…

With love,
Samantha x

A Little Treat After a Long Day

Diary of a Wedding Planner

After a long day setting up the marquee interior,¬†d√©cor¬†and whisky tipi for Richard and Kate’s wedding this weekend, it was certainly a very lovely surprise to find this little box waiting for me in my hotel room…

A gift courtesy of the hotel and happy couple – Thorntons chocolate truffles! What a lovely touch… I assume the other 70 wedding guests received one on their tea tray too, but luckily I was staying in a single room (more chocolates for me!!)

Just what I needed!

With love,
Samantha x

Kit Box – check! Clipboard – check! Wedding Planner – check!

Diary of a Wedding Planner

Eeeek! I love this bit before a wedding, when you’re all packed and ready to go… Everything is in place, ready and sorted for this weekend’s marquee wedding in rural West Wales and now I can’t wait to load up the car and go join the fun!

The marquee is set up, the caterers are on site, and as I write this I’m just waiting on a last minute delivery of vintage cut glass decanters to compliment the ‘Downton Abbey in the Trees’ theme of this weekend’s wedding.

It’s going to be truly beautiful – imagine elegant tableware, crisp linens, various shades of blue, with silver gilt frames and candelabras, hydrangeas galore and, oh yes, some trees thrown into the mixture too, bringing outside and inside together in a range of marquees and tipis perched on the cliffs of Cardigan Bay overlooking the Irish sea and the Lleyn Peninsula – and if the weather really holds out we may even see Ireland in the distance too…

My kit box is all packed and the clipboard is loaded up with details, to-do lists, and all the information of the various suppliers set to join us Saturday morning to turn this couple’s dream into a reality. All I have to do now is get there too and the fun can really begin, so fingers crossed no huge dramas surface along the way!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

With love,
Samantha x

“Do You Take This Family….”

Diary of a Wedding Planner

Weddings are happy¬†occasions, and nothing makes me happier than seeing my couples smiling on their wedding day. Even more so when, a few weeks later, I receive a glowing testimonial or beautifully written thank you letter from Mr and Mrs… confirming that the day we spent months planning together was as wonderful as they’d hoped it would be.

But for a wedding planner, the big day can be a sad occasion too, because as well as saying hello to the new husband and wife, most of the time we have to say goodbye as well.

Let’s face it, we wedding planners get to know those couples pretty well in such a short space of time. The nature of my job means I get to share in some of the most intimate details of their relationship so far, and be a part of one of the most memorable days they’ll ever experience together. I learn about my couples’ personalities, loves, likes, dislikes, the little things that bond them, the bits that make them disagree, and by the time it comes to saying goodbye at the end of the day, I often feel like I’m saying goodbye to friends.

Sometimes it is just the couple who I have the pleasure of getting to know so well, but other times it stretches further than that. The bridesmaids and the best friends who know the details as well as the brides themselves; the fun-loving grooms-men who have kept me laughing all day with their mix of boyish behaviour and attention to their duties; and the parents of the bride and groom, to whom this day means so much as they let go of their little boy or girl and watch their son or daughter fall in love and grow. Sometimes, it can take a good half hour to say goodbye to them all, sharing hugs and kisses, smiles and thank-yous!

Usually, once the day is done, and it’s my turn to leave and go home, I drive home with the joy of knowing my couple’s wedding day has been the best it could have been, but the sadness too of knowing I’m unlikely to see this couple I know so well again.

So that’s why it’s always such a pleasure when, a few months down the line, I receive a call or email from another member of the family – a brother, sister, cousin, even friend, requesting my services for their future wedding too!

This weekend I was thrilled to catch up with one of my newest couples at their parent’s home to talk about their wedding plans, where not only did I get excited over having a new wedding to plan, but I got to¬†reminisce and look back at one of my previous weddings too, as my new bride-to-be happens to be the twin-sister and maid of honour of one of my previous brides, and not only that but my previous couple came along for the catch up too! It was so lovely to see them all again and talk about their wedding, and to look back over the photo albums that had been put together by the bride’s (both of them!) mother – something I don’t often have the opportunity to do!

With love,
Samantha x
