Love Actually is All Around Us

Diary of a Wedding Planner

I have spent many an evening lately thinking that it has been quite a while since I last posted a floaty, heartfelt Diary of a Wedding Planner post on this here little blog of mine; but lovely followers, I have simply been too overwhelmed with actually being a wedding planner to take any time to write about it! Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you like!) it has been so busy here at Perfect HQ with 3 weddings already delivered this year, the 4th looming ahead on next weekend’s horizon, that I have been so busy planning weddings, I have had very little spare time to write about them.

Today was one of those days. I spent my morning tap, tap, tapping away at my emails, making calls and generally pulling together all the strings for next weekend’s big, beautiful marquee wedding in Oxfordshire. By 2pm this afternoon, my brain was becoming frazzled and I decided it was time to treat myself to a little break away from the screen and away from Perfect HQ.

But it would seem that, when you are a wedding planner, there really is no break from weddings.

I decided to take myself, and Bella the dog, up to Gnoll Park here in Neath, for a little stroll around the woods and the ruins, and to take a little hour to myself for some ‘me’ time to reflect upon the past few weeks, and the next few to come.

As I was wondering along, dog zipping about between the bushes next to me, and thinking about all the times Mr. Perfect and I had walked these paths together hand in hand, I saw a gorgeous tree in full bloom ahead of me – bright pink – and it caught my eye immediately (most bright pink things do afterall.) I decided to take a picture, I am an Instagram-addict. But something else caught my eye too.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

I saw a bench – it must be a memorial bench I thought, as there are quite a few dotted about the Gnoll – and it had flowers on it. It must be new, fresh flowers for remembrance. But it wasn’t. The flowers, on closer inspection were not memorial flowers at all, they were wedding flowers, and believe me I know wedding flowers when I see them. A beautiful heart shaped wreath, full of big pale pastel blooms, drying out in the sunshine, and a glorious bridal bouquet casually placed next to it, tied with a silk ribbon.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Someone had left these pretty little wedding flowers here on the bench. Why? – I don’t know, and I probably never will either, but it made me smile.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

As a wedding planner, I am a romantic at heart, and something about finding this little floral display so unexpectedly up the gnoll brightened up my day today. I often think about how some people sometimes forget about the love and the marriage itself when they are busy planning their weddings, perhaps I had even lost this thread a little myself this morning as I ploughed on through my own to-do list of the day, but these flowers came as a gentle little nudge to me this afternoon, reminding me exactly why it is that I do what I do. I do it for love.

It just shows, to quote a well-known British rom-com, that love actually is all around us, afterall.

The shabby chic inspired wedding stationery was designed and produced by Something Kinda Cute.www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

You can’t beat an Oh So Perfect pompom! We made these handmade pompoms especially for Samantha and Daniel the night before the wedding to be hung in the wedding breakfast marquee. The colours matched the carefully chosen colour scheme.www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The bride designed her own place cards, using luggage tags and lace. We clipped these onto each guest’s napkin with a little heart.

The boys were given a little moustache on a stick for their wedding favours, whilst the girls had wooden hanging hearts. Everyone also had a homemade cupcake on their table, all piled high on vintage cake stands. www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Grandma’s and Grandpa’s even had a little something extra on their place setting!www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Tables were named after inspirational couples in film, television and history. www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Guests enjoyed a wonderful view over Oxwich Bay as they tucked into the main meal – what a glorious sunny day for it too! www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Samantha’s grandparents featured on the list of inspirational couples too!www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The centrepieces were made up of birdcages filled with flower petals, supplied by Enchanted Décor. Samantha had also cut a square of fabric to sit underneath the centrepieces, all of which matched the handmade bunting on the top table and cake table.  www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The Vintage Tea Party Company provided a mix match of vintage china side plates, tea cups and saucers, which were used for the tea, coffee and cupcakes at the end of the meal. www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The top table included the words ‘Mr & Mrs Morgan’ in wooden letters, along with a floral display, wicker heart and beautiful bunting hand-made by the DIY bride herself.www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Fresh roses were added to the wedding cake, and later in the evening we moved the bridesmaid’s bouquets around the base of the cake for added effect. So pretty!www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

And what evening reception is complete without a sweetie table – this popular trend just keeps on coming back!

The bridesmaids’ bouquets were made up of fresh flowers, but Samantha’s own bouquet was designed and created using a mixtue of crystals, pearls, broaches and jewellery, which perfectly complimented her fitted lace dress.www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

As a little surprise for Samantha and Daniel, the bride’s mum had arranged for doves to be released during the drinks reception. www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The couple were so lucky to have the sun shining down on them as they took to the beach for their photos with photographer Maria Farrelly and Richard Shelton of Aurora Video.www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

What a glorious wedding, and such a pleasure to be a part of. The bride smiled all day long, and the groom looked so pleased to see everyone enjoying themselves! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Morgan!

Sarah and Gareth ~ Modern Hollywood

Oh So Perfect – Wedding and Event Portfolio

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

On Saturday 6th April 2013 Sarah Borland married Gareth Griffiths in a royal blue modern Hollywood theme wedding held at Miskin Manor in South Wales. Oh So Perfect were delighted to be involved in the overall design, planning, set up and on the day coordination of Sarah and Gareth’s big day…

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Sarah and Gareth named all of their tables after modern Hollywood films relevant to their own ‘love story.’ These included ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ ’50 First Dates,’ ‘The Proposal,’ ‘The Holiday,’ ‘Bridesmaids,’ and ‘Father of the Bride,’ amongst many others!

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

Instead of traditional table name cards, we placed the poster of each film the table was named after in a mirrored frame flat on the table, with a description of the film, why it had been chosen, and a quote from the characters alongside it.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The centrepieces were made up of martini glasses, popcorn boxes and gorgeous blue delphiniums and roses courtesy of the lovely ladies at The Flower Pot in Pontyclun.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The top table was lined up with all the films in mirrored photoframes to help reflect the colours and light around the room. We lined up popcorn boxes which were filled with the posies from the pew ends at the church. We also pinned patterned ribbon to the front of the table to look like discarded film reel.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

The guests were all given mini boxes of home-made popcorn to enjoy through the speeches.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

We used a film projector to play a running loop of clips from all the films throughout the wedding breakfast.

Blue uplighters added splashes of colour around the room and helped to tie in the royal blue colour scheme.

www.ohsoperfect.co.uk

We set up a photo booth in the evening full of props for guests to play with. Guests were asked to take a photo with the polaroid camera and post it onto what was originally the table plan, so that Sarah and Gareth could take this home and frame it later.

Can you spot our wedding planner Samantha and her handy assistant Rhod Gilbert in amongst the props!

In the evening, we opened the dance floor and unveiled large Hollywood props to add to the theme and create a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Oh So Perfect would like to extend a huge thank you to all the suppliers who were involved in the coordination and delivery of such a fabulous day, and to Zipline Media and Rhod Gilbert for their involvement: We were so chuffed to see our couple grinning from ear to ear throughout the whole day! More importantly, we’d like to thank Mr and Mrs Griffiths – Sarah and Gareth – for being such a gorgeous couple to work with!
