An Evening in Laugharne

Diary of a Wedding Planner

Last night, Mr. Perfect and I enjoyed a little drive down to one of my favourite towns in Wales – Laugharne.

I initially planned the trip to visit Broadway Country House to take some measurements for one of  my weddings there this coming August, but since Mr. Perfect would be joining me for the evening as my assitant, I thought it would be a lovely opportunity for us to stop in Laugharne for an hour or so afterwards.

Admittedly I’d had visions of a glorious evening, eating fish and chips with Mr. P by the estuary, with a full view of the castle and Dylan Thomas’s boat house, and the sun setting in the distance.

It rained.

Typical, a gorgeous week of sunny weather, and tonight is the night it decides to pour.

Oh well, you can’t always have it your way (though we try!) and Mr Perfect and I still had a lovely little evening and a quick stroll along the estuary path. Mr. Perfect is a big fan of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, having studied him during his degree, and had never had the opportunity to visit the boat house and writing shed before, so it was delightful to be able to take him down to these iconic landmarks of Laugharne for a sneaky peek through the windows at the Dylan Thomas display inside.

The writing shed has been set up to look as it would have done whilst Dylan was writing here in his final years, and I must say they’ve done a fantastic job of capturing the atmosphere in that little room. It really does look as though he has just stepped away from his chair. How wonderful to stand here and look over the estuary that inspired him, watching the birds and water currents as Dylan did while he wrote Under Milk Wood.

Have you visited Laugharne lately? Did you see the boathouse?

With love,
Samantha x
