Hollie and Andrew ~ Choccywoccy Wonderland

Hollie married Andrew on Saturday 29th August in a ceremony at the Woburn Hotel in Bedfordshire, followed by a reception for friends and family at Flaxbourne Gardens, Aspley Guise.

The guests were treated to a day of Alice in Wonderland themed delights intricately woven into the set up with sweet touches such as a miniature magnifying glass table plan, tea party hand made teacup centrepieces, a cookie jar buffet, and nonsense arrows and riddles dotted about the room.

The piece de resistance of came in the shape of a novelty, dormouse tea party cake made by legendary chocolatiers Choocywoccydoodah, which formed a central focus for many guest photographs throughout the afternoon!

Oh So Perfect we’re delighted to work with bride Hollie on an ‘as and when’ basis whilst planning her wedding, assisting with supplier meetings and some simple idea forming, and were ultimately thrilled to provide the on the day coordination for this special day.

Henrietta & Craig – DIY Spring Barn Wedding

Henrietta married Craig in a sweet ceremony in Gloucestershire, on Friday 17th April 2015.

Following the ceremony, the bride and groom, and their guests, arrived at Prior’s Court Barn in Brockworth, to continue celebrations on into the afternoon and evening.

Henrietta and Craig took their theme to the extreme, creating a DIY wedding like no other. Not only did the bride and groom along with their team of hands-on-helpers, ushers and bridesmaids, decorate the barn from top to bottom with home made, hand made decorations, including everything from paper mâché hot air balloons, to hessian table runners; this incredibly talented bride even baked her own wedding cake, full dessert table of scones, tarts and brownies, and provided all the canapés on the day, whilst the groom provided guests with home made bottles of red wine ready on the tables for dinner.

For dinner, guests were provided with chef hats and aprons, and one designsted person per table was given fun instructions to carve and serve the delicious roast lamb to those sat around them.

Their guests didn’t exactly escape the DIY theme either, not only was the wedding breakfast a hands on celebration of food, fun and laughter, they were also invited to bring an array of sweet and savoury home baked delights to be judged in the wedding’s very own bake off competition that evening, and later on all the home cooked offerings were used for the evening buffet. The attendees were also invited to send back their best-kept-secret family recipes with their RSVPs which the happy couple had made into personalised cookbooks for the winners on the night.

Oh So Perfect were delighted and honoured to provide on the day coordination for this very hands-on, elegant affair. Congratulations Henrietta and Craig!

10 Wedding Planning Dos and Don’ts

Oh So Inspiring – Ideas, Tips and Advice

  1. DO start with the budget. Sit down together and realistically discuss how much you would like to spend on your wedding, and how you will fund it. Will you use savings?  A loan? Will your family want to help out? Only spend what you can afford – you don’t want to end up with debt afterwards!

  2. DO put together a rough guest list as early as possible. It doesn’t have to be set in stone, and it may change here and there as the months go on, but it will give you a clear indication of numbers for when you start planning and booking your suppliers.

  3. DON’T forget to think about your venue’s interior. If you’re already set on a colour scheme or theme, try to find a venue which compliments your existing choices, or else choose a scheme which is supported by the colours already present in your venue’s décor. Visit our previous blog post ‘What To Think About When Choosing Your Colour Scheme or Theme’ for more tips and advice on this subject.

  4. DO design the invitations carefully. The wedding invitation is the first ‘clue’ guests receive about the overall style of your big day – so try to create an invitation which ties in to your colour scheme or theme so your guests have a clear indication of what they can expect. Wedding stationery expert Kelly White of White Crafts recently wrote this useful post on our blog all about choosing your perfect Wedding Stationery

  5. DO cheat to save cash. Cut costs by letting your wedding cake double up as the desert. You can even hire yourself a ‘dummy’ display cake and purchase a smaller, simpler cake to be cut up in the kitchen and served to your guests at the end of the night. Your guests probably won’t even notice the difference!

  6. DO seat friends and family together. It’s tradition at the wedding breakfast to seat your guests with people they haven’t met before, but often this leaves the room feeling very sober as guests exchange polite chit-chat. Scrap formalities and seat your guests together with the people they know – the atmosphere will be lively and your guests will have a more enjoyable experience.

  7. DON’T forget the kids. If you’ve invited guests to bring their children, make sure there is something available to keep them entertained. Place a colouring book or packet of bubbles on the tables with children seated to play with during the speeches, or even hire-in an event nanny who will keep the children entertained with toys and games all evening while your guests are busy dancing.

  8. DO practise your first dance. All eyes are on you here, and it can be embarrassing if you’ve not prepared. You don’t have to book a dancing lesson or choreograph a routine, but make sure you have a little slow dance at home together to your chosen song a week or two before so you’re used to each other’s moves before you take to the stage. Plus it’ll spark a romantic evening for you both!

  9. DON’T forget the groom. Girls, it’s easy to get carried away with the excitement of planning a wedding, but remember there will be two of you exchanging vows, so be sure to include your man and allow him those personal touches he’d like too. (Except the perhaps the bunny girl waitresses – there’s a limit!)

  10. DO have fun and hire an on the day coordinator! Planning your wedding is one of the most exciting things you’ll ever do, and many people do it without the help of a wedding planner; but do consider hiring a coordinator for the big day itself– you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the day you spent so long planning, knowing someone else is there to set up and keep watch while you’re focusing on having fun. Dilly Daydream Cakes

Grab yourself a cup of tea and a slice of cake – you’ll certainly be fancying something sweet after you’ve read this delicious little catch-up with wedding and celebration cake-maker, Heather Harris, from Pontarddulais cake shop Dilly Daydream Cakes

Based on St Teilo Street, Pontarddulais – one of the most popular streets with brides in South Wales – Dilly Daydream bake delicious cakes using great quality ingredients, including free-range eggs.

One of the most common compliments I get is, “your cakes taste like cakes used to!”

The majority of Dilly Daydream’s customers come from the Swansea, Llanelli, and Ammanford areas, or from brides further afield who are coming home to tie the knot, and Heather has even sent her wedding cakes as far as Spain!

Most brides say they have chosen me over others, because of the taste of the cake samples they have tried. They also have confidence in my abilities to provide them with a perfect finish , and my attention to detail.

Heather loves to design something new for each customer. Every couple is different, and Dilly Daydream believe a cake can reflect your personality and taste fantastically! Weddings are a large part of Heather’s business – she considers providing couples with a unique cake that has the ‘wow’ factor for them and their guests as a true privilege.

I have quite eclectic taste, so enjoy designing cakes in different styles, from handmade sugar flowers, pearls and lace, to humorous character cakes.

Dilly Daydream cakes appeal to the bride and groom who want something unique and delicious – I have been delighted with the amount of brides who have booked their wedding cakes with me, I even have bookings for 2013.

Described as ‘friendly, delicious and unique,’ Dilly Daydream have certainly set the standard for wedding cakes in South Wales, but Heather happened upon her business venture as something of an unplanned series of events…

I did not set out to start a business, I have always enjoyed making and decorating cakes for my children, friends and family members, when friends of friends started asking for cakes, it evolved into a business.

It all started with my eldest son’s first birthday cake, he’s now 32! I had no formal training, it’s all practice and passion.

I consider myself very lucky, to be able to do what I love for a living , despite the very long hours, I would not swap it for the world.

And 32 years since that first birthday cake, Dilly Daydream has grown into a massive success, with Heather adoring every moment spent in the busy bakery.

Weddings are just the icing on the cake, if you pardon the pun, nothing beats the feeling of seeing  the cake you have worked so hard on , set up at the venue. Except maybe the thank you card from the delighted bride, some of which have reduced me to tears.

What makes a wedding Oh So Perfect? A happy couple, oh, and a fantastic cake!

Dilly Daydream Cakes is located at 130 St Tielo street, Pontarddulais, SA4 8RE or visit their website for more photos, information, and to get in touch www.dillydaydreamcake.co.uk
